Take a Look at a Moment

Shift from Behavior Focus --> Moment Focus

Behavior Focus

“Come here.”

The adult repeats the instruction and focuses mainly on whether the child complies.

Moment Focus

What is this moment for?

  • Come for a hug (social interaction)

  • Come for icecream  (highly preferred activity)

  • Come for bath time  (non-preferred activity)

The focus shifts from “compliance” to helping the child participate within a meaningful moment.

Parent Reflection

What can I do to help my child move into this moment successfully?

  • prepare the transition

  • increase predictability

  • support regulation

  • create motivation and connection

  • guide participation

What is this moment FOR?
Values in the moment. Habits in the making.

Participation is learned within everyday life.
